Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie

Eat your heart out Del’s Freeze!  Del’s is an old fashioned soft serve ice cream store that has served our community for over 35 years.  Back when we indulged in ice cream, they had a terrific chocolate, peanut butter twist cone which rivaled a Reese’s peanut butter cup.  Although this smoothie isn’t quite thick enough to serve in a cone, it is super delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 T natural peanut butter
  • 2 T sugar (optional)
  • 1 T cocoa powder
  • ½-1 cup soy, nut or rice milk
  • 1 cup ice

Directions:

Throw all ingredients into a blender and process until smooth and creamy.

Hi Nancy,
This smoothie looks really good. I’ll try it soon. I use my Vita-Mix most often for smoothies and am always looking for new combinations. I’m trying to cut out refined sugar but love sweets! I wonder how I can make this smoothie sweet without the optional sugar? Honey? Maple Syrup? Fruit juice? Not sure what flavors go with chocolate. A banana might work.

Keep up the good work. I really enjoy your newsletters and was excited to read about your website upgrade. It looks nice. I enjoyed the Southern Fried Tofu video – Fun to watch you work.

Thanks for the encouragement to eat healthy. It is such a struggle for me sometimes. Blessings to you and yours. Julie

Julie, you might try Welch’s 100% White Grape Juice Concentrate. I use this in my green ice cream and can’t taste the grape-y taste, but it makes it sweet.

I’ve never tried the grape juice concentrate, but it sounds like it would work. We do sometimes use honey. Sugar is tough to find a substitute for sometimes. Stevia might work too.
